“Perspective shifts will unlock more than smartness will.”

– Astro Teller

One of my favorite topic to think about is the art of thinking. It is a powerful act after all. A person’s life condition is heavily influenced by how and what he thinks.

I am always intrigue by the thought process of different people either due to nature or nurture. Depending on how you think, it can either contract or expand your life.

If you think that you’ll never in this lifetime go out with your crush, you’ve basically resigned yourself to that fate. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If, however, you think you stand a chance a ask your crush out, at least there’s a 50/50 chance for success. And our lives is a collection of all these decisions we make every waking moment which just goes to show how big a role our mindset plays in our life.

When pursuing something, the usual attitude is to go for a modest target which seems achievable given our current abilities. Unfortunately, this limiting thinking may just be the reason of our failure. Which brings me to 10x thinking.

Instead of aiming for and thinking about a 10% improvement to the present situation, we should think about what it would be like to get a 1000% improvement and what it takes to get there. This mode of thinking is the harder path but it opens the door of possibilities immediately and often times leads to more fun too. Even when you fall short of the target, you’d still gain a lot more than if you just aimed for the 10% improvement.

So, when presented with the next opportunity, think about 10x bigger. This is something I am working on myself and it gets me excited. Great things will come. And here’s a short podcast to help you get on your way.

“I think, therefore, I am.”
