“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry,
The Little Prince is my favorite book. It is one of a few that I keep going back to every now and then. For a book meant for children, The Little Prince contains many subtle messages on how to navigate our lives. Through fascinating characters which the Prince encounters on his adventures, similarities can be found between these characters and the ones we encounter in real life. For example, the person who craves power above all else. Or the one who is obsessed with earning more money just for the sake of it, disregarding everything else. This book is really profound and so full of emotions.
Depending on my frame of mind or where in life I am, there is always something new that resonates with me every time I re-read it. The most important message for me is to always remain curious, to not let adult demands and responsibilities to overwhelm and snuff out the wonderment of the child in me. My goal is to one day read it in the original French version.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was an adventurer himself and I think this book was his reminder to always keep exploring this world and ourselves. We are all pilots of the life’s plane and it is up to us to keep up with the Little Prince. Stay curious always.
