Number three on my daily routine is a practice in mindfulness. There’s a lot going on in our mind without us realizing and that can sometimes lead to irrational actions with less than ideal results. What happens in the mind is brilliantly expressed in the Pixar movie Inside Out:
I can relate a lot to this movie and can feel the various characters in my head navigating my central character through life. To get some form of control over this natural chaos is where mindfulness practice comes in. Paraphrasing Tim Ferriss, a daily mindfulness practice is a way to decrease emotional reactivity so you can proactively create your day and create your life; versus, just being a walking reflex that sometimes screws up.
The simplest way to get into mindfulness practice is by using the Headspace app. For me, as a member of Soka Gakkai International organisation, this is achieved by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo as part of my daily practice.
As always, happy testing.
